How to use
Before first use do a patch test, to see if your horse is allergic to any ingredient used.
Apply Zenroll SPF in a relaxed environment. Roll it up and down your horse’s nose at least 3-5 times and observe your horse. You should see immediate signs of relaxation upon application; this means that you found the right amount of Zenroll SPF for your horse, and your horse is starting to relax.
If you don’t, apply a little more product and observe your horse. You should see chewing, licking, blowing air, or yawning.
Try various locations over your horse’s nose, since that can also have different effects.
If you have a very sensitive horse, apply it first in the horse’s stall, and then again right before mounting, loading, or going out. Since the lasting of effect can also vary from horse to horse.
We want you to know exactly what you’re putting on your horse
The base: Olive oil, corn starch and coconut oil
They form the base and texture, and what is most importantly they pre-dillute our essential oils, which ensures their safe use! Essential oils if left undiluted, or if applied too heavily, can cause irritation, and even have negative effects.
The bridge: Sodium Bicarbonate and Hydrogenated Olive oil
They maintan the pH ballance when applied on the skin and serve as a rich source of antioxidants, that help nourish the skin and retain moisture
The stars: Lavender oil, Patchuli oil and Vetiver oil
A non-drowsy calming trio, which ensures a calming effect, reduces anixiety, and heart rate all through the sense of smell!
The SPF
A non-nano zinc oxide, meaning it is larger than 100nm and therefore doesn’t penetrate the skin, is the safest option of UV filter to use and provides broad-spectrum defense against both UVA and UVB rays.
Essential oils explained
Lavender is perhaps the most recognized essential oil, and extensive research supports its calming properties for both horses and humans. Lavender releases a vapor called linalool, which activates specific sensory proteins in the brain, leading to the release of linalyl acetate, promoting a soothing effect. Contrary to earlier beliefs, recent studies indicate that linalool travels directly to the brain through the sense of smell.
Importantly, research has shown that linalool provides an “anxiolytic effect without motor impairment” in test subjects, making it a non-drowsy calming aid that is safe for use during physical activities like riding or training.
Numerous studies have highlighted Patchouli’s ability to produce anxiety-re- ducing effects in both humans and animals, alongside extensive anecdotal evi- dence of its efficacy with horses. Additionally, patchouli is known for its antimi- crobial properties, ensuring the Zenroll mixture remains clean and safe for ap- plication on horses while enhancing the overall scent profile.
Known as the “oil of tranquility,” Vetiver has been used in ancient perfumes and is another exceptional calming essential oil derived from vetiver grass. A pivotal study demonstrated that vetiver could reduce horses’ heart rates by an average of 7%, a statistically significant result that outperformed other tested oils.

A nervous, tense, spooky and anixious horse is not a happy horse. While relaxed horse is more in sync with himself, happier, more supple, more focused, easier to work with, to train and handle, and at the end of the day less prone to injuries. We are not fans of calming pastes, powders or sedatives out of necessary veterinarian reasons, and frankly neither are our horses.
That’s why we wanted to develop a simple, fully transparent solution, that helps your horse in an all natural way. We founded Canter Equestrian for all horse lovers, who want to give their horses only the best, and for our horses, who mean the world to us.
Aromatherapy, scent-based therapy with positive effects, is used on humans worldwide for centuries. Humans have 350 smell receptors, while horses have over 1000. That makes a scent-based therapy 3 times more effective than in humans, where it already works wonders between young and old. Ingredients used in Zenroll were scientifically proven to have calming effects on horses, Zenroll is 100% natural, and safe to use. Compared to some classical calming products it does not have a drowsy effect on horses, which makes it perfect for any stressful situation.
Since Zenroll is a 100% natural product results may vary, as well as the amount needed for desired effect. We advise all first-time users to start with at least 3 rolls up and down the nose area and wait for signs of calming down: chewing, yawning, relaxed lips, and or blowing air. When you feel the effect is rubbing off, simply reapply as needed.
We advise all first-time users to introduce the Zenroll slowly and with positive reinforcement. You can first roll the product over your hand and let your horse sniff it, then apply it with your hand to his nose, let your horse sniff Zenroll and only then apply it directly. Take your time, from our experience all horses end up loving it!
